Project: Cultivate NYC

Queens Container Farm

Project: Cultivate NYC Mission

Project: Cultivate NYC is a multi-stakeholder nonprofit educational initiative whose mission is to increase food security, economic opportunity, and food education for NYC residents of all ages and backgrounds, through the activation of The Greenery S; a technically advanced hydroponic container farm produced by Freight Farms growing fresh vegetables and greens with an initial location in the parking lot of the Office of the Queens Borough President.

PROJECT PARTNERS

Project: Cultivate NYC is a collaborative effort being spearheaded by The NYC Agriculture Collective, the Office of the Queens Borough President, and Freight Farms. Through working together, the project partners hope to achieve a variety of goals and outcomes.

GOALS & OUTCOMES

The goals of Project: Cultivate NYC are to establish an operating plan for the activation of the container farm, build network and programming partnerships, and identify a long-term location and operating partner, as well as secure sustainable funding sources for the continuation and replication of the project in other boroughs across New York City and eventually in other cities across the US.

The expected outcomes are to create employment opportunities in AgTech, provide reliable free or subsidized fresh produce to local food pantries and partners, and create a valuable and accessible center for education in the community.
